In a landmark diplomatic engagement held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye hosted President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan for the fifth meeting of the Türkiye-Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The summit concluded with the signing of over 20 bilateral agreements, affirming the deepening strategic and economic partnership between the two nations.
Kazakhstan – Türkiye’s Leading Trade Partner in the Region

At the joint press conference following the council meeting, President Erdoğan underlined the robust economic ties between the two Turkic states, stating:
“We elevated our relations with Kazakhstan, with whom we declared our strategic partnership in 2009, to the level of enhanced strategic partnership three years ago. Kazakhstan, which is the top economy in the region, is our biggest trade partner in the region.”
He further announced that Turkish investments in Kazakhstan have reached approximately $5 billion, while Kazakhstan’s investments in Türkiye stand at around $1.5 billion, with both countries aiming to achieve a $15 billion bilateral trade volume in the near future.

Energy, Connectivity, and Regional Integration
Strategic sectors including defense, energy, transportation, science, and technology formed the core of discussions. The leaders emphasized cooperation on increasing the flow of Kazakh oil to global markets through Türkiye. In a forward-looking statement, President Erdoğan noted:
“We have discussed what we can do for the use and development of the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor, which is the contemporary Silk Road.”
This route, often referred to as the “Middle Corridor,” aims to enhance east-west trade by linking Central Asia to Europe via the Caspian Sea and Türkiye.
Security Cooperation and Turkic Solidarity
Security concerns and counter-terrorism efforts were also high on the agenda, with a focus on joint actions against terrorist organizations, including FETÖ. President Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to regional stability through strategic cooperation with Kazakhstan.
Looking ahead, the Turkish President highlighted the upcoming informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States, set to be hosted by Kazakhstan in 2026. He reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering support for Turkish Cypriots, calling them “an inseparable part of the Turkic world.”
“We especially stressed in the joint communique that Turkish Cypriots’ equal and natural rights must be respected.”
Strong Words on Gaza: Erdoğan Condemns Israel
In the broader regional and international context, President Erdoğan used the platform to strongly condemn Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza.
Describing the humanitarian situation in Gaza as catastrophic, he called on the international community—especially Islamic nations—to raise their voices against the atrocities:
“It is a must for all the nations, all the conscientious countries, Islamic countries in particular, and all the people to further raise their voices.”
