In a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Ishaq Dar, held a high-level trilateral meeting in Kabul with the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. The meeting took place ahead of the signing of the Framework Agreement on the Joint Feasibility Study for the ambitious Uzbek-Afghan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project.
The trilateral engagement marks a milestone in regional diplomatic cooperation, underscoring a shared vision for economic development, peace, and sustainable connectivity. The three foreign ministers reaffirmed their countries’ deep-rooted ties and reiterated their commitment to advancing joint initiatives that support long-term prosperity across Central and South Asia.
The UAP Railway Project, a flagship initiative for transregional trade, aims to establish a critical transport corridor linking Uzbekistan with Pakistan’s seaports via Afghanistan. Once operational, the railway will reduce transit time and costs for cargo, facilitating smoother trade flows, boosting regional commerce, and offering new economic opportunities for millions.
During the meeting, the ministers emphasized the importance of sustained political will, technical cooperation, and mutual trust to ensure the successful implementation of the feasibility study and subsequent phases of the project. They highlighted the railway’s potential to serve as a catalyst for peacebuilding, stability, and economic empowerment in the region.
