The event brought together diplomats, senior officials, academics, business leaders, and members of the media for an evening that combined cultural warmth with strategic dialogue.
The ceremony was graced by Federal Minister for Culture and National Heritage Aurangzeb Khichi as Chief Guest, alongside Ambassador Wunna Han of Myanmar, current Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI). The celebration featured the traditional ASEAN handshake and a ceremonial cake-cutting — symbolic gestures underscoring solidarity among member states and their partners. The Serena Hotel’s refined cultural setting, blending Islamic and regional architectural elegance, served as a fitting backdrop for an event dedicated to mutual respect, trust, and cooperation.
In his address, Ambassador Wunna Han noted the importance of Pakistan as ASEAN’s first Sectoral Dialogue Partner, praising the progress under the ASEAN–Pakistan Practical Cooperation Areas (2024–2028) framework.
Pakistan’s Strategic Engagement with ASEAN
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Additional Foreign Secretary (Asia-Pacific), emphasized Pakistan’s aspiration to become a Full Dialogue Partner with ASEAN. He pointed to growing opportunities in trade, digital economy, fintech, sustainable development, tourism, and cultural exchange, noting that Pakistan maintains an active diplomatic presence in nine ASEAN capitals.
He also highlighted the role of connectivity initiatives, such as the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), in linking South Asia and Southeast Asia.
