In a promising development for bilateral relations, Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening trade and economic cooperation. A high-level delegation led by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made in recent months toward enhancing economic engagement, describing it as a key pillar of Pakistan-U.S. relations. The talks focused on identifying new areas of collaboration and advancing existing trade ties across multiple sectors.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb emphasized the centrality of the United States as Pakistan’s largest trading partner and underscored Pakistan’s strong interest in expanding cooperation in both traditional and emerging sectors — including information technology, agriculture, and mineral development.
“Our focus is to create a diversified and mutually beneficial economic partnership,” Aurangzeb stated, highlighting Pakistan’s readiness to support U.S. businesses seeking investment opportunities in key growth sectors.
Both delegations expressed optimism that the ongoing trade talks — which include technical-level discussions scheduled to conclude in the coming week — would lead to tangible outcomes and broaden the scope of bilateral economic cooperation.
